  • Cortisone injections are a first-line anti-inflammatory injection therapy that may relieve pain and inflammation. They are most commonly injected into joints - such as your ankle, elbow, hip, knee, shoulder, spine or wrist.

These injections contain a corticosteroid medication and a local anesthetic to make the process more comfortable. When deemed appropriate, these procedures are best done under ultrasound guidance to maximize safety and efficacy.

Cortisone is considered first line therapy in many doctors’ offices because it is inexpensive, safe, and provides valuable diagnostic information without requiring a patient to commit to several rounds of injections.

Cortisone shots are most effective in treating inflammatory arthritis, but they can also be a part of treatment for other conditions including but not limited to: bursitis, tendinitis, trigger finger, carpal tunnel syndrome, gout, and all forms of arthritis including and especially osteoarthritis.

  • Prolotherapy, also known as prolifereative therapy, is a medical treatment that involves injecting a solution into an area of the body to stimulate healing and repair of damaged or injured tissue. Often an entry-point and first-line of natural therapy for pain management, prolotherapy is a cost-effective non-surgical treatment option for most injuries and pain syndromes.

Prolotherapy may reduce pain and inflammation, and may be expected to improve function and mobility to the affected joint or limb, by stimulating the body's natural healing processes. Prolotherapy is a non-surgical treatment option for some pain- and sports-related conditions.

  • Trigger Point Injections involve a small dose of local anaesthetic being injected into tissues to help alleviate pain. They can be used as a first-line therapy for pain management, and may be helpful in confirming diagnoses as a diagnostic injection.

  • Intramuscular stimulation (IMS), sometimes referred to as “dry needling” involves the use of acupuncture needles to stimulate, and trigger a “reset” in muscle trigger points. It may be a highly effective teatment for muscle-derived pain syndromes and chronic pain in general.

  • Hyaluronic acid injection therapy, sometimes referred to as viscosupplementation, is a medical treatment used to relieve joint pain, especially associated with arthritis, tendonitis or ligament injuries & sprains.

Various hyaluronic acid injection therapy products are Health Canada approved for: Osteoarthritis, ligament & tendon injuries (ie. strains and sprains)

Benefits: Hyaluronic acid acts as a lubricant in the joints, reducing friction and pain and has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce joint inflammation and pain. Hyaluronic acid can improve joint mobility by increasing joint fluid viscosity and reducing joint stiffness.

Minimal side effects: Hyaluronic acid injection therapy has minimal side effects compared to other pain relief treatments such as corticosteroids or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Long-lasting effects: The effects of hyaluronic acid injection therapy may last for several months, providing long-term pain relief.

Non-surgical: Hyaluronic acid injection therapy is a non-surgical treatment option, which means patients may avoid the risks and recovery time associated with surgery.

ultrasound guidance

Our pain experts utilize ultrasound guidance which maximizes clinical effectiveness of treatments, safety, and the reduction of collateral damage to surrounding tissues. When you think about it, it’s insane to imagine advanced injection therapies without the use of ultrasound guidance!

  1. Improved accuracy: Ultrasound guidance allows for real-time visualization of the injection site, which can improve accuracy and precision. This can help ensure that the medication is delivered to the intended location, resulting in more effective pain relief.

  2. Reduced risk of complications: Ultrasound guidance can help reduce the risk of complications associated with injection therapies, such as accidental puncture of nearby nerves or blood vessels. By visualizing the injection site in real-time, the clinician can ensure that the needle is properly placed and avoid any unintended damage.

  3. Increased safety: Ultrasound guidance can help increase the safety of injection therapies by reducing the risk of adverse reactions to the medication. By ensuring that the medication is delivered to the intended location, the clinician can avoid injecting too much medication or injecting it into a sensitive area, which can help prevent adverse reactions.

  4. Better patient outcomes: Ultrasound-guided injection therapies can result in better patient outcomes, including improved pain relief and faster recovery times. By delivering the medication to the intended location with greater accuracy, patients may experience faster pain relief and require fewer follow-up injections.
